The Movie is about a petty thief whose travails to steal a diamond necklace gets him involved with a naive girl searching for her fiance in the big city. Subbalakshmi is simple girl who grows up in a quaint little village. She

goes to the city to find her fiance, Prakash, who comes there to pursue his higher studies. On the train she comes across, Raju, a petty thief who just stole a diamond necklace. To avoid being caught by the police, he places the necklace in Lakshmi's bag without her knowing. Once he's through the police checking, he goes to find Lakshmi. On the pretext of helping her find her fiance, he tries to steal the necklace back. Just when he's about to take the necklace, something funny always happens that prevents him from taking the necklace. Raju starts to develop feelings for Lakshmi but never acts on them. Lakshmi searches the entire city to find her Prakash and Raju tries to help her, and one day she sees Prakash at a five star hotel with another woman. Prakash, falls in love with Lavanya, the owner of the five star hotel and plans to inherit her fortune by marrying her. Heartbroken by what she sees, Lakshmi tries to commit suicide but Raju stops her at the nick of time and reasons with her. They decide to teach Prakash a lesson, so Lakshmi changes her appearance from a simple looking village girl to a flamboyantly beautiful woman. She checks into the hotel under an alias and introduces herself to Prakash and Lavanya. Meanwhile, Raju befriends Lavanya and gets close to her. Prakash gets furious and threatens Lakshmi and Raju not to interfere with his wedding to Lavanya. But Lavanya learns Prakash's true intentions and calls off the wedding. Lakshmi also realizes that Prakash is a selfish man and that she has feelings for someone else, Raju. The movie ends with Raju and Lakshmi ending up together.

The Story is about Raam who is married to Seeta and they have been trying to conceive a child for some time. After going for some tests, the doctor informs them that they cannot, and this is due to shortcomings from Raam. However, the doctor then secretly confesses to Raam that it is in fact Seeta who cannot conceive, to spare her from the shame that would have followed in Indian society. Raam's father, Moti discovers this and tries to force Raam to marry again as he wants a grandchild - however Raam refuses to marry anyone except for Seeta. One day, Girish and

Raam go to Nepal, were Girish comes across a girl,Manisha who is about to be publicly disgraced. He arranges the girl's freedom by stating that Raam will marry the girl - without conferring with Raam. Raam attends the wedding ceremony, unbeknownst to him that he is in fact the groom and the ceremony is being performed around him owed essentially to the fact that they were speaking a different language and the ceremony was different to that in India. Shortly after the ceremony, he discovers that he is now married to Manisha, and had been tricked into doing so by Girish. Raam returns to India, where he remains in contact with Manisha, who learns to speak fluent Hindi from their mutual friend Gopal whom they met in Nepal. Moti now desperately wants a grandchild to lighten up his life, so requests the couple to adopt a child. However, by this time - Raam now has a child with Manisha in Nepal and proceeds to adopt the child with Seeta - named Rinku - and "employ" Manisha in their house as a maid to allow Manisha to be near her son - all unknown to Seeta. Moti discovers that Manisha is in fact Raam's wife and Rinku is their blood-child and begins to secretly dote upon Manisha all while Kajaal criticises the relationship that the "employer and servant" shared. One evening, after Moti and Manisha return from the cinema - Kajaal confronts her father-in-law as to why he is favouring the house-maid over his own daughter-in-law; out of anger Kajaal attempts to throw Manisha out of the house. Raam intervenes and then declares that Manisha has just as much as right to this house as she does, and even more right to be with Rinku than Kajaal - as his wife and Rinku's biological mother. The story concludes with everyone accepting the situation of polygyny and living together.
