Scarred by the war, Corporal Chris Merrimette is given command of a unit and assigned a mission to resupply a remote outpost. The unit composes of Cpl Danny Kettner, Lance Corporal Danielle 'Danni' Allen, Private Rafael Soto, Private Justin Li and Private Khalid Hassan abu Faisal, an Afghan National Army personnel helping the unit to go through the route. While on mission, the unit is flagged down by a Navy SEAL Special Operations Senior Chief Fox.

Because the Senior Chief is ranking officer, he orders Merrimette and his men to assist in his operation, which is to extract an Anoosh 'package' from the Taliban strong-hold of Helmand River Valley. Annosh is being searched by the Taliban for defying the Sharia Rule by awakening the people against the tyranny of the latter. As the team advances, they are pinned by the insurgents causing Soto to get nervous. Li is killed while trying to save panicked Soto, who is shocked but Chief Fox motivates him to continue with the new mission. The team is again confronted, this time by Taliban snipers dug into a berm. Not wanting gunfire to call attention to more Taliban, Chief Fox decides the sniper team must taken out by hand. Chief Fox enlists Merrimette to accompany him, and the two ambush the snipers, killing them with hand-to-hand combat. Despite keeping things quiet, shortly more insurgents arrive in trucks. While all the Taliban are killed, Chief Fox too is fatally shot. Before dying Fox orders Merrimette to complete the mission by delivering the package. He tells Merrimette to get Annosh to his friend, a police captain in Minar, Helmand River Valley. The team, Khalid, and Annosh reach Minar and meet up the Police Captain. A suspicious person using a video camera apparently alerts the Taliban to the presence of the soldiers and their package. Soon well-armed insurgents arrive in trucks with mounted machine guns. Fierce fighting occurs during which Private Soto and the local policemen are killed by gunfire and an RPG fired inside the police office. The remaining team severely stunned and incapacitated by the RPG blast, insurgents enter, find Annosh, and take her away in a truck. A recovering Merrimette vows to pursue Annosh's captors and deliver her to the Marine base, as Chief Fox ordered. Kettner questions the validity of sacrificing Marines for "this package," and becomes skeptical about the mission. Khalid steps in and persuades the team to continue on, by telling Annosh's story, that included the Taliban executing her sister. The team sneaks into the insurgent stronghold and silently kill many men. Eventually gunfire alerts the insurgents and their Taliban leader who vows the Americans will not find her alive. Just as he is about to execute Annosh with a blade she screams out to alert the Marines on her location within the same-looking building towers. Merrimette hears her screams, kills Annosh's captors and rescues her. As they are trying to make it to a truck to escape the camp, more insurgents arrive and attempt to corner the team. Kettner is wounded so he tells Merrimette to flee while he provides cover. Khalid too decides to stay and keep the insurgents pinned down. Merrimette, Anoosh and Danni get to a small pickup truck, take out the insurgents and are able to flee. Kettner and Khalid remain behind, keep the insurgents at bay, but are both killed in a hail of gunfire. Merrimette, Anoosh and Danni safely arrive at the Marine base. Annosh thanks Merrimette for his help. The commanding officer and XO arrive on scene, tell Merrimetter and Danni well done, and drive off with Anoosh, who leaves for the UNHCR conference where she will deliver her speech on education rights in Afghanistan. Merrimette and Danni then walk together further into the base.
